Fort Lauderdale Swordfishing - The Perfect Fix for the Experienced Angler

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Vinnie LaSorsa If you are looking to do battle with the toughest game fish South Florida has to offer, evening swordfishing in the Gulfstream of the Atlantic is your best bet. South Florida has an excellent swordfish fishery, and swordfish are truly one of the toughest predators and hardest fighting fish in the ocean. This is what makes swordfish the gladiator of the sea. Once an angler feels the strength of a swordfish and sees the beauty of it in the boat or upon release, he or she will be hooked for a lifetime. Swordfishing has greatly rebounded off the coast of South Florida . With the shutdown of commercial longlining of Florida ’s Coast, we are able to truly enjoy great swordfishing. While some nights are better than others, we are getting numerous shots at swordfish just about every night. The great thing about these fish is you never know how big the fish youre fighting is. Swordfish are pound for pound the toughest game fish that swim the ocean and will keep an angler at the ready for a prolonged fight. Most Captains leave the dock a couple hours before sunset so the can set up there lines before dusk. The tackle usually used consists of 50 lbs stand up tackle. An average trip lasts 6-8 hours, but we have been known to be hooked up to large and uncooperative swordfish throughout the night. Fort Lauderdale Swordfishing is truly the perfect fix for an experienced angler who wants to test is skills against the Gladiator of the Sea. Fidel Castro Was a Law Student

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Lance Winslow Fidel Castro is an excellent case study into the mind of an attorney or Lawyer. Castro promised his fellow revolutionists that once they had conquered the country that they would set up a free democracy. Yet within a month Castro had changed all that, taking over businesses to fund his new government and sending people to prison who did not follow his exact orders. He set up sham trials and courts, with dictator type rules of law, which suit his fancy. In doing so he betrayed the people he was said to have freed. Anyone speaking of betrayal was jailed, beaten or killed. Today Fidel Castro is the last dictator in the Western Hemisphere. This is an interesting study of what happens when you turn your country over to the lawyers; they take over, using their version of law, which is whatever suits them. Lawyers are nothing by Machiavellian thinking folks claiming superior ethic, when in reality they are unfit to lead possessing an evil mind and complete disregard to freedom. Are you completely sure that you do not believe that Caesar did not have a good idea there, when he said; First, we kill all the lawyers! Fidel Castro is a dictator and we obviously are a very weak country, having traveled half way around the world to take out a dictator when we have one in our own back yard, whose sons will soon take over and continue Fidels mission and of course they also have studied law, Castros Law. Why are we allowing this in our own hemisphere? Think on this; think about the weaknesses in our National Diplomacy in American and this hypocrisy in the present period; exactly why are we not policing our own back yard anyway? “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Planning a Maui Wedding

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Kevin Stith Just as there are a variety of wedding packages available, Maui wedding planning is also packed with many possibilities. So many people come here to get married that the choices of wedding planners to take care of all the arrangements are as diverse as the choices of wedding. If you are not all that familiar with the island or you are unsure of exactly what youd like to arrange for your special day, get in touch with several of the wedding planners on the island and start talking to them. Once you discuss your particular needs and wants for your wedding day, theyll be able to give you an idea of the costs involved as well as making suggestions to improve on your original intentions. Maui wedding coordinators come in all shapes and sizes on the island. There are those that cater to the rich and famous, who come to the island for a lavish but still secretive ceremony and reception. And there are others who can get you the best deals in town on all of the necessary services to make your wedding as fun and memorable as you can afford. Whatever your budget and your needs, there is a wedding planner on the island who can make it all happen without you having to lift a finger. To begin with, the sheer number of choices can be overwhelming to some. Select several Maui wedding coordinators to talk to and see how you feel about their conversation. Ultimately, it all comes down to your instincts in making your final choice but there are some tips you should know to make that choice a bit easier. Online, there are services in Maui who list a majority of the wedding planners available. By filling out a quick form where you can list your requests and your concerns for your wedding day, all of them will receive it and respond to you quickly by email. After youve sorted through their responses, you can decide which ones seem like the best choice and you can narrow down the possibilities by responding back to them or calling and starting a conversation. Remember, phone calls to Hawaii are expensive, so if youre on a tight budget, continue your correspondence by email until youve narrowed down the field even more. Ask the person youre considering hiring as your Maui wedding planner a lot of questions. Ask whatever you want and voice your concerns to them so you can make your final decision with as much information as possible. Are you worried about the weather? What will happen if a storm breaks out during your ceremony on the beach? What is the food like? Will it be private? Ask the planner whatever you can possibly think of. Based on their answers, you should be able to narrow down the field and choose the Maui wedding coordinator thats right for you. The College-Bound Student’s Early Bird Menu

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Reecy Aresty Many parents and students I counsel confuse Early Admission, Early Read, Early Decision, Early Action and Early Notification. How these and the other admission strategies listed below are used, will determine the course of the students college years. Understanding them is an absolute must! Early Admission: Typically, the student applies to college at the beginning of the junior year and simply goes through the process earlier. However, Early Admission is seldom used as it only applies to the most exceptional students who complete all high school requirements prior to the 12th grade, or even earlier. Although it is not binding, I strongly recommend that the student demonstrate a college level of social and emotional maturity before implementing this strategy. Schools often get into a bidding contest to recruit the truly exceptional student, some offering full scholarships for the privilege of having such an accomplished student on their campus! Nonetheless, use with extreme caution! Early Read: A number of colleges will offer to calculate a familys EFC, (the expected family contribution; the minimum amount determined by the federal government that a family will pay at any college for each student). This is done without obligating the student to apply to their school. Simply send them all your financial information at the beginning of the 12th grade! Sounds like a good deal, right? Wrong! Wherever possible, keep the schools and the federal government out of your wallet! If the student eventually decides to apply to that school, the aid offer has already been predetermined. Surely, you wouldnt feel comfortable having the IRS calculate your taxes, so why would you have a college determine your EFC? Avoid this at all costs! Failure to heed this advice will result in paying thousands more than you had to for a college education! Early Decision: This is a program with earlier deadlines and notification dates than the regular decision process. Students who apply for an Early Decision program commit to attending that school and only that school. This is a binding contract restricting the student to that one school. Once accepted, the student must notify all other schools applied to and request that their application be withdrawn. There is however, an upside. If money is not an issue, and the family will not be applying for financial aid, Early Decision is highly recommended, because it will give the student a decisive advantage in the admissions process! On the other hand, if financial aid is an issue, the danger is that the student must attend that college regardless of the financial aid offered! While Early Decision adds some leverage to being accepted, the financial consequences can be devastating because the student must accept the schools financial aid package no matter how inadequate it might be! I only recommend Early Decision under very specific circumstances. Also, if you change your mind, rescinding an Early Decision acceptance doesnt sit well with the schools. This option should only be used with extreme caution. Early Decision II: Offered by some schools, it is virtually identical to Early Decision except the application deadlines are later, usually January 1st. As with Early Decision, only one school can be applied to. Im not an advocate of this one either. Follow the Early Decision criteria above and proceed accordingly. Early Action: Except for Early Decision candidates, I encourage all students to apply for Early Action. Students apply from September 15th to January 1st, and notices usually go out between December 15th and January 31st, (dates may vary). Applying for Early Action has one definite advantage. Since the competition is so fierce, the sooner a student applies the better. For the barely qualified student, this is the only way to go. It would be highly unlikely such a student would qualify in the general applicant pool, as they would be competing against far too many honor students and would pale by comparison. Also, students apply to college at the beginning of the senior year, and any grades beyond mid-term may not count at all! Always implement this strategy! Early Notification: This is similar to Early Action, except that some schools might also ask for a commitment to their financial aid package well in advance of the traditional May 1st deadline. Unless they make an offer you cant refuse, ask them to extend their deadline until the family has had sufficient time to consider all offers from the schools the student has been accepted to. I would strongly advise against negotiations because the student will be at a serious disadvantage with no other offers to compare and accepting could be a very costly mistake! Avoid this like the plague! Open Admissions: Some four year, most two year and virtually all community colleges will offer all applicants admission on a come-as-you-are basis. If they have room, as long as you have a high school diploma youre in! Implement when available. Rolling Admissions: (Ive saved the best for last.) This is a most advantageous school policy for applicants, as colleges offering Rolling Admissions will notify students of their status within a few weeks of receiving all necessary application documents. They usually accept students until such time as their quotas have been satisfied. Check the admissions policies of the schools youre applying to and by all means implement this strategy whenever and wherever available… Reecy Aresty has been a financial advisor since 1977, and is founder and president of College Assistance, Inc., located in Boca Raton, Florida. Relationship Advice Gone Wild

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Susan Russo “Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer and wish we didnt.” -Erica Jong Everybody wants to be politically correct and say the right things. You have to tip toe around the reality of hard truths and watch that you dont hurt anyones feelings. There are times when the words that you speak and what you are thinking, are two entirely different things, all in the name of being polite and professional. For the first time, what you are about to experience is the brutal, cold truth about how to get over the end of your relationship, let go and move on. Some people simply cant handle the truth; they are just too delicate and fragile. On the other hand, maybe if they are slapped in the face with reality, they will finally wake-up. Get ready for you are about to enter the Relationship Advice Gone Wild Zone. Statement: Im crying my eyes out, I just cant stop thinking of them. I feel so hurt and I dont know what to do. Advice: Cry your fool head off and get it out. Cry and cry some more and then be done with it. Do you honestly think you wont ever get over this jerk? They left you didnt they? So why on Gods good earth would you want them back? Do you really want to be with someone who doesnt want to be with you? Hellonothing like forcing someone to be with you, Im sure thats just what youve always wanted! Statement: I just want to call them one more time. Advice: Thats great, is your phone ringing? NO! So what do plan to accomplish by calling them? Whats your point? Dont you get it? They arent picking the phone up to call you. So what are you going to do? Be a pest or a stocker, not to mentionhave a little pride. Or, better yet, why dont you call them and beg them back. If they arent calling you, why would you ever give them the satisfaction of calling them? Its overso get over it. Statement: I love them and I didnt want this to end, do you think they feel bad that its over? Advice: First of all, no kidding you love them. Anybody who could dump you and you still want them, now thats real love. Or is it desperation? Sure, you probably did love them, but the problem is that; you werent being loved back. It time to get over the shock, pick up the pieces and face the cold hard truththeyre gone. I know thats not what you want to hear, but sorry, thats reality. Now you have to deal with it the best way you know how. As far as them feeling bad, well I hate to break it to you butthey may have a twinge of guilt, but lets face it, they left didnt they? So my guess is that they arent feeling that bad, more than likely they are going about the business of getting on with their life, just like you need to do. Statement: I want them to feel bad. Advice: I know you want them to feel bad, but they may never feel bad. By holding onto thoughts of revenge or wishing ill will on someone is not only bad karmayou are the only one it hurts. You know, sometimes life just isnt fair, but the best revenge is living a good life. Quite simply, you are wasting your time wishing for something that may never happen. Plus, you will never really know for sure. So let it go, dont let it eat you alive. Its your choice. Believe me the list goes on. Your emotions have gone wild in trying to get over whatever their name was. Lets face it. You have to get over it anyway, so what are you waiting for? Dont tell me, youre holding out hope that theyll come back. Even though thats a normal reaction, again, its a waste of time. You might as well stare the truth in the face and say, Im not going to let this ruin my life, Im done. If they dont want me someone else will. Then go about not only living it, but also believing it. High Nutritional Value Carp Bait Design

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Tim F. Richardson So how do you sort out the best baits to hook big carp these days? So-called food baits are very commonly used in carp fishing these days, especially where extreme fishing pressure on many waters means that using quality nutritional bait equals success instead of failure. But how would you make an effective homemade carp bait by using the optimal proven nutritional protein food ingredients levels? What is the starting point for working out what ideal bait protein levels are? Carp have essential carp dietary requirements for proteins, and the aim is to provide a balanced profile of amino acids in your bait. This sounds technical, so a scoring system is used to measure the nutritional biological value of an individual ingredient. It is best to notice that this value is based on digestion by humans. There is little data of this type from directly testing carp baits in carp digestion. However the latest and most accurate method of measuring biological nutritional value, and most importantly for carp baits, food protein nutritional value is the new American measurement called: The fixed dietary protein percentage. When we mention protein carp baits its often misunderstood that the amount of protein type ingredients we use in our baits need to be in very high levels to be effective, as in the old high protein baits. Such protein baits were estimated to have a carp biological convertible protein content as high as 75 % protein or even as high as 95% protein! This content was often achieved by using milk protein extractions and derivatives such as casein, lactalbumin and sodium caseinate, among others, mostly having a protein value, in human consumption of over 70% protein. Since those times it has been observed that carp baits with much lower protein values are very effective in both the long and short-term. Today baits are often made with an estimated carp convertible protein content of just 30%, but are still termed high nutritional baits and in fact are superior in design to the old high protein baits because their nutritional properties are more balanced and efficiently used by carp while maintaining very high attraction. The dietary protein a carp essentially needs, can be tested scientifically, using a mixture of high quality casein and gelatin, supplemented with crystalline amino acids. This is fed to the carp in graded levels, and over time, the carp are measured for optimum growth per graded protein level. All this can be shown on a graph with Growth Response (vertical line), and Dietary Protein Level (horizontal line). There will be a Maximum Growth Response at the point where the Optimum Dietary Protein Level is reached. In carp nutrition tests, its called the Break Point and allows for the fixed dietary protein percentage to be calculated; as a percentage of the carps essential diet. This is the type of figure that is used to design specific proprietary, carp and koi dietary feeds. Please notice, in the tests, food fat content was always supplemented when not present in sufficient levels in the protein and carbohydrate sources. These provide essential fatty acid groups, needed especially for cell wall structure and maximal protein synthesis, among other uses. Fat levels never read over 5 % to 10 % and averaging 2.5 to 5 % of the total dry feed. There are health consequences for fish as a result of excess fat in bait, for example Vitamin E deficiency. The protein to carbohydrate to fat ratio is extremely important in producing the healthiest carp; resulting in optimum protein digestion and assimilation. This converts to the fastest carp growth and weight gains. More energy is released in digestion when the protein, carbohydrate and fat levels are in optimum levels. This balance has proven to catch more big fish in the long-term. Anglers have found they caught as many carp on baits of only mid-low protein, for example: 40 % to 60 % protein, as a bait of very high, protein 85 % for example. However, much below 30% protein, (for example 25 %,) and the catch rates started to drop by comparison to higher protein baits. The subject carp bait nutritional value bait success, hinges around the carps essential daily dietary requirements and key dietary deficiencies. If a carp water is very rich and carp have very few dietary deficiencies, then the bait that offers the best nutritional value at the least energy in digestive cost would most likely achieve the most success long-term as the carp will instinctively gain benefits from the bait an this encourages them to keep eating it. This would be a big advantage over using low nutritional value bait on the same rich water. A great diversity of carp baits are being fed to the fish on many carp waters today. And in amounts that were unheard of 25 years ago. There are many more carp anglers feeding up the fish with free baits these days. Consequently, the fish in different waters respond differently to this free food. This reaction may depend more on the water quality, or availability of natural food, or on the consistent level of fishing pressure or on high or low stock levels. Some waters will still produce bigger fish, regularly on poorer quality baits or instant attractor flavored carbohydrate based baits. By far the majority of big fish waters, certainly the pressured ones in the UK and in Europe, produce the very biggest fish more and more consistently on nutritional food baits. This is no coincidence and relates back to carp essential dietary requirements that must be met for basic survival. This does lead to many big fish treating nutritional baits as an essential naturalized food supply since they are fed them permanently 24 hours a day on many hard pressured waters! So in remembering that a low protein, carbohydrate based bait may only contain: 6 % to 14 % protein, as in the case of a semolina based bait for example. This is not enough to sustain a big carp healthily without supplementation with other nutrients and natural foods sources. This is compared to fish meal based bait for example, with high levels of predigested protein ingredients incorporated. Such bait is far superior nutritionally and big fish will tend to eat this preferentially, especially in a highly stocked fishery. So, by providing carp with the optimum ratios of nutrients at the least digestive energy cost, gives more energy to the carp to eat more food, therefore giving you more opportunity for more takes and more fish! Arnold Schwarzenegger built his body using the principle of a high nutritional value diet with an intense exercise regime. He regularly consumed the highest muscle convertible biological value proteins, like whey and caseins. Such dietary supplements represented the very highest quality available to body builders in the world, at that time. He consumed high levels of carbohydrates, only for extra energy, while he trained, so that his protein nutrition was maximized and converted for repair and growth and building of those huge muscles to win his Mr Universe Titles! A very high profile UK fisherman, Julian Cundiff, achieved outstanding and very consistent big carp catch results for years, by regularly feeding his waters with high nutritional value food bait. This approach was used extremely successfully, and the bait ingredients he used remained basically unchanged for years. It was designed using the balanced protein food and amino acid profile bait principles, derived from scientifically proven carp dietary requirements. The appliance of scientific research may sometimes be hit and miss and there are certainly few proven absolutes in carp bait making and nutrition, due to lack of direct scientific testing. However, nutritional carp baits have proven themselves by their catches over the decades, and the ability to understand, make and correctly apply these baits, is a massive edge in big carp fishing indeed. EAT CARBS Without Gaining Weight!

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Sherry Granader You have lost weight by avoiding the carbs you pass up the local Bakery and order protein and vegetables at restaurants. You ask the waiter to take the bread basket away and forget dessert right!? Have you noticed a change in your mood? Do you still crave carbs? For many people, low-carb eating is not satisfying for the long term. They continue to eat their steak and eggs but at some point miss their whole wheat toast or their favorite pasta dish. It is possible to re-introduce carbs if you introduce the right carbs in the right way! You might gain some weight but that is because carbs hold water in the body. When you start adding carbs back in, you are going to store water which is a good thing. Start by looking at your diet! WHAT ARE YOU ACTUALLY EATING EVERYDAY? This might surprise you because many people are following low-carb diets but are eating more carbs then they realize! Many people start with a low-carb plan of less than 20 grams of carbs per day and then increase it gradually! Less than 60 grams per day is pretty standard during the weight loss phase! One slice of bread has 15 grams of carbs! The best way to start is to stay away from PROCESSED CARBOHYDRATES like white bread, white rice, white pasta, French fries, baked goods and snack foods! They are all processed in the body like sugar because they create an exaggerated insulin response which lead to overeating and less staying power because they have LESS NUTRIENTS! Look for carbs that give you the most nutrition! Steel-cut oats for oatmeal, whole-grain bread for toast. The fiber content promotes good gastrointestinal health which lowers cholesterol and keeps you full! Whole fruits are fine because they are low in calories, natural sugar and high in fiber! Beans and legumes will fill you up without fattening you up and low-fat dairy products like yogurt will strengthen your bones and help your body with weight loss. Weight loss still comes back to calories so as you add carbs back into your diet, you must watch your calorie intake! There are over 100 studies that show weight loss is primarily due to decreased calories not decreased carbs! Watch your portion sizes especially at restaurants! What foods do you keep in your refrigerator? Your office? Your car? Do you eat standing up? Or on the run? The best advantage about the low-carb diets is that it has made people aware of their eating habits and portion sizes! They realized there are some good things about carbs like stimulating the production of serotonin the mood elevating chemical in the brain. The best trick is to enjoy your favorite carbs but not all at once! Do not have garlic bread, cheesecake and pasta all in the same meal. Here are some low-carb foods that have great flavor and texture! NET CARBS Manufacturers calculate net carbs by subtracting the carbs that come from fiber or sugar alcohols from the total grams of carbohydrates. Since carbs from fiber are NOT absorbed and those sugar alcohols are NOT turned into glucose, they are thought by some not to count as much. The U.S. FDA currently does not have a definition of net carbs or digestible carbs. 1. low-carb whole-wheat tortillas these have 80 calories per tortilla with 2 grams of total fat and only 12 grams of carbohydrates they taste better when heating or grilled! 2. Whole-grain breads usually have 80-90 calories per slice and 0.5 grams of fat with 16 grams of carbohydrates. This bread tastes better toasted and is a better choice than light, low-calorie bread 3. Multi-grain breads have 60 calories per slice and only 9 grams of carbohydrates. Always better tasting when toasted. 4. low-carb pasta has about 190 calories per cup with 1 gram of fat you will see on the label 42 grams of carbohydrates that include 4 grams of fiber so a NET carb of 38. It is a little chewier than full-carb pasta remember look at your fist that is the amount you should eat anyway so choose your favorite. 5. High-fiber cereal has about 100 calories per cup with about 2.5 grams of fat. 11 grams of total carbohydrates with 6 grams of fiber so a net carb of 5 grams. Crunchy, sweet and filling! Try it with some vanilla soy milk. Whole-grain carbohydrates are ideal for weight loss! They are filling and less refined because the whole-grain is intact before it is processed. Look for ingredients like whole wheat, whole barley, cracked wheat, graham flour, whole cornmeal, whole oats. Refined grains have been processed to remove the bran and germ try mixing brown or wild rice with some white rice. The low-carb breads do not provide as much nutrition as whole-grain breads Wheat flour found in whole-grain bread is more likely to be enriched with vitamins, folic acid and iron! You can still enjoy some good carbohydrates and still lose weight painlessly and not feel deprived. Remember, portion control does count and so does exercise at least 30 minutes per day! Everyday! Macrolide Antibiotics Uses, Side Effects, Advantages And Disadvantages

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski] Yury Bayarski Macrolides are a class of antibiotics known as broad-spectrum antibiotics that are used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Macrolides are derived from Streptomyces species. They have a common macrolytic lactone ring to which one or more sugars are attached. They are different from one another in their chemical substitutions on structures of various carbon atoms and the amino and neutral sugars. Macrolides are one of the oldest classes of antibiotics. Macrolide antibiotics have been regarded among the best-tolerated antibiotics for almost 50 years. The first member of the class, Erythromycin was discovered in 1952. Newer macrolides, azithromycin, clarithromycin and dithromycin are semi-synthetic macrolides similar in structure to erythromycin. These agents have been developed to overcome the problems associated with erythromycin. The newer macrolide antibiotics offer the advantage of fewer adverse gastrointestinal effects than erythromycin and dosing regimens of only once or twice a day. The newer macrolides also have a broader spectrum of antibacterial activity than erythromycin. The newest generation of macrolides, the ketolides, whose clinical use is in its early stage, are characterized by improved activity against some of the resistant strains. Macrolides advantages and disadvantages Macrolides disadvantages: severe allergic skin reactions cardiac arrhythmias many drug interactions including prolonging INR macrolide resistance is reported for 20%30% of Streptococcus pneumoniae The newer Macrolides advantages: broad antibacterial spectrum simple to use, convenient dosing regimens - daily or twice daily dosing regimen side-effect profiles (low incidence of gastrointestinal side effects). One of the most important features of the macrolide class is the excellent safety profile allowing the drug to be used broadly across all age groups macrolide antibiotics, as a group, are generally safe in pregnancy excellent tissue and intracellular penetration enhanced acid stabilities Mechanism of action The mechanism of action of the macrolides is inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding reversibly to the subunit 50S of the bacterial ribosome, thereby inhibiting translocation of peptidyl-tRNA. This action is mainly bacteriostatic (inhibition the growth and reproduction of bacteria), but can also be bactericidal in high concentrations. Macrolides tend to accumulate within leukocytes, and are therefore actually transported into the site of infection. Macrolides bind to the large ribosomal subunit in the vicinity of the peptidyl transferase center and cause cell growth arrest due to inhibition of protein synthesis. Macrolides spectrum of antibacterial activity Macrolides have activity against many gram-positive bacteria (excluding enterococci and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), and have variable activity against respiratory gram-negative pathogens, Mycobacterium avium infections, gonorrhea. Macrolide antibiotics are noted for their intracellular accumulation and activity against intracellular pathogens such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae and Legionella spp. Apart from antimicrobial activities, macrolides can modify host cell functions. Clarithromycin and azithromycin have similar spectrum to erythromycin but increased activity against Hemophilus, Mycobacterium avium intracellulare, and toxoplasma. Azithromycin has increased gram-negative activity, while clarithromycin has increased gram-positive activity. Spectrum of activity: Gram-positive aerobes (Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae (only PSSP), Group and viridans streptococci, Bacillus sp., Corynebacterium sp.). Erythromycin and clarithromycin display the best activity (clarithromycin>erythromycin>azithromycin). Gram-negative aerobes (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, Neisseria sp.). Newer macrolides (clarithromycin and azithromycin) have enhanced activity (azithromycin>clarithromycin>erythromycin). Anaerobes. Activity against upper airway anaerobes. Atypical bacteria. All macrolides have excellent activity against atypical bacteria including: Legionella pneumophila - DOC, Chlamydia sp., Mycoplasma sp., Ureaplasma urealyticum. Other bacteria. Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC Ц only A and C), Treponema pallidum, Campylobacter, Borrelia, Bordetella, Brucella, Pasteurella. Conditions treated with Macrolides Macrolide antibiotics have antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, some gram-negative bacteria and intracellular pathogens. The spectrum of antibacterial activity combined with excellent intracellular and tissue penetration has led to the extensive use of this class of drugs in respiratory disease. Macrolide antibiotics also have demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in various in vitro and in vivo model systems. Macrolides are used to treat: Respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, pharyngitis, lower respiratory tract infections) Skin and soft tissue infections Sexually transmitted diseases Cervicitis, urethritis Mycobacterial infections H.pylori infections (clarithromycin, as part of triple therapy) Macrolides are valuable alternatives to penicillins and cephalosporins in allergic patients. This group of antibiotics has been widely used in children for their antibacterial effects against diseases such as diphtheria, pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumonia, Chlamydia pneumonia and Legionella. Side effects The macrolides are well-tolerated agents. The commonest side effects are gastro-intestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain and cramps). Side effects are more common and severe with erythromycin therapy. Azithromycin and clarithromycin have fewer gastrointestinal side effects than erythromycin. Allergic reactions, headache, taste disturbance, eosinophilia, reversible hearing loss, and hepatotoxicity are an infrequent occurrence with all the macrolides. Macrolides should be avoided in severe liver disease due to increased risk of hepatotoxicity and altered handling. Macrolide are contraindicated if there is a history of hypersensitivity. Erythromycin is considered safe in pregnancy and breast feeding. Clarithromycin is safe in breast feeding (pregnancy category C). The evidence for safety of azithromycin is lacking, and use is therefore inadvisable unless benefit is considered to outweigh potential harm. Drug interactions Macrolides are divided into 3 groups for likely occurrence of drug-drug interactions: group 1 (e.g. erythromycin) are frequently involved group 2 (e.g. clarithromycin) are less commonly involved group 3 (e.g. azithromycin, dirithromycin) drug interactions have not been described Both erythromycin and clarithromycin inhibit the activity of the hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme system. As a result, these agents reduce the metabolism and increase the serum concentration of other drugs eliminated through the P450 pathway. Azithromycin, due to differences in its chemical structure, does not cause these interactions. The following medications are known to be affected by erythromycin or clarithromycin: anticoagulants astemizole bromocriptine carbamazepine cisapride cyclosporine digoxin disopyramide ergot alkaloids methylprednisolone terfenadine theophylline and related compounds triazolam More information about [http://www.originaldrugs.com/antibiotics.shtml] antibiotic medications is available on author’s website - [http://www.originaldrugs.com/] OriginalDrugs.com Article Source: [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski ] http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski [http://ezinearticles.com/?Macrolide-Antibiotics-Uses,-Side-Effects,-Advantages-And-Disadvantages&id=395138 ] http://EzineArticles.com/?Macrolide-Antibiotics-Uses,-Side-Effects,-Advantages-And-Disadvantages&id=395138 cheapest phentermine no prescription phentermine online physicians and pharmacy best place to buy phentermine order phentermine

Fat-Loss Options

Monday, April 7th, 2008

By Thomas Incledon It seems like more and more people are worried about fat loss these days. Unfortunately it seems like not enough of them are following a healthy lifestyle. The latest Center for Disease Control figures indicate that obesity is increasing faster than ever. We all know that exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle, but how do you keep the fat off when you cant always make it to the gym? Luckily research has demonstrated that several different foods and supplements can help reduce body fat. Check out these brief reviews to find out which supplements are right for your individual needs. Burning More Fat One strategy to reduce body fat involves increasing the conversion of fat to heat. This process is called thermogenesis and while it can help reduce body fat quickly, its not a license to eat everything that you can get your hands on. Studies have shown that certain types of tea extracts stimulate thermogenesis. The way this works is that a neurotransmitter called noradrenaline (NA) stimulates the production of a molecule within our cells called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which leads to increased thermogenesis. Certain tea extracts contain compounds called catechins along with caffeine. The catechins inhibit the enzyme that breaks down NA. The caffeine inhibits an enzyme that breaks down the cAMP. By drinking teas rich in catechins and caffeine (such as green tea) you prevent the breakdown of NA and cAMP, which means you spend more time burning fat for energy. While subtle, this effect can yield dramatic results. A green tea extract was shown to increase the number of calories burned in a day by about four percent. The same extract also caused a reduction in the use of carbohydrate for energy and a ten percent increase in the use of fat for energy. These results could yield up to ten pounds of fat loss per year without exercise! As great as the above seems, it gets even better. Another type of tea called Oolong was actually shown to increase metabolism even more than green tea. Oolong tea increased resting energy needs by ten percent compared to four percent for green tea. At first glance it might seem like drinking Oolong tea would be better than the green tea, but researchers found that the teas work for different reasons. Green tea is high in catechins and caffeine, while Oolong tea is high in polymerized polyphenols. The research suggests that by taking both teas, an even greater fat burning effect can be achieved. Calcium for weight loss? As crazy as it sounds, it may actually be true. Research studies suggest that dietary calcium can have an anti-obesity effect. Healthy sources of calcium include skim milk, fortified orange juice, sardines, beans, green leafy vegetables, and nuts. Calcium intakes of 1000 mg per day or greater are associated with lower levels of body fat. Low calcium diets stimulate responses by our fat cells that result in higher levels of intracellular calcium. This leads to increased fat cell size, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and other health problems. Higher levels of dietary calcium suppress this response so that fat cell intracellular calcium levels are lower. This serves to stimulate fat breakdown at the cellular level. Animal studies have demonstrated a reduction in body fat by 26-39% from higher calcium diets. This is supported by human research showing that higher calcium diets are associated with lower levels of body fat, on the order of 25 pounds less body fat. Stabilizing Blood Sugar Insulin has become a new curse word in our every day language. Various diseases and conditions have been linked to this hormone and now everyone has jumped on the slam insulin bandwagon. What has escaped many people is that a number of different strategies exist that can reduce insulin levels. Many of these strategies involve stabilizing blood sugar levels so that body fat can be reduced, which leads to lower insulin levels. Both teas and coffees contain active compounds that can modify glucose levels. Black, Oolong, and green teas contain active components that inhibit the breakdown of starch in the mouth, exert insulin-like activity by increasing glucose use by cells, and delay glucose absorption. While the various components act through different mechanisms, the end result is to lower blood glucose levels so that less glucose can be stored as body fat. Coffee contains chlorogenic acid, which slows down glucose absorption and shifts glucose absorption to distal parts of small intestine. Banaba leaf is a lesser-known herb that contains a compound called corosolic acid. Animal studies have demonstrated that Banaba leaf extracts improve glucose entry into cells and can reduce body fat levels. Similar results on glucose control have been reported for humans using an extract providing .48 mg of corosolic acid, which suggests that it can also reduce body fat. Another supplement that has research to support its glucose lowering actions is glucomannan. Glucomannan derived from the Konjac plant has received attention from physicians for controlling blood sugar since 1979. Several studies have shown that Konjac glucomannan can positively effect blood glucose levels and this can lead to fat loss. Blocking Fat Absorption We all know that you need to eat less calories than you burn in order to lose weight. However science has shown that a slight modification of the eat less than you burn clich can prove useful. For example, what if the fat you ingested couldnt be broken down and absorbed? It sure would be a lot easier ( and more fun) to stay lean. A component of Oolong tea called teasaponin has actually been shown to inhibit the actions of an enzyme called pancreatic lipase that breaks down fat in the small intestine. By inhibiting this enzyme, the fat cannot be digested and absorbed. In this case you are not what you eat, but what you absorb. Fat Loss Round-Up There is an impressive amount of research steadily appearing in medical and physiological journals on the benefits of naturally occurring substances for increasing fat loss directly and/or indirectly by improving blood sugar levels. Green tea, Oolong tea, black tea, white tea, coffee (chlorogenic acid), calcium, Konjac (glucumannan), and Banaba (corosolic acid) appear to be promising compounds for the future. Taken together, these compounds may prove even more beneficial and help us keep that waist a little trimmer while we enjoy living. References upon request.
